I wonder where they get their data from, e.g. NRW has much lower numbers: https://www.mags.nrw/coronavirus-fallzahlen-nrw
Morgenpost has 4268 for March 18th, while the NRW page shows 3838
At the moment https://www.mags.nrw/coronavirus-fallzahlen-nrw has 4743 and https://interaktiv.morgenpost.de/corona-virus-karte-infektionen-deutschland-weltweit/ has 4743 for NRW. So the numbers match. Maybe refresh your browser.
https://interactive.zeit.de/cronjobs/2020/corona/data.json also shows 4743 for NRW. However the total sum for Germany of zeit.de is different from morgenpost. And that is what my question is about.
So I see that for e.g. for Brandenburg the number is 187 at the moment (https://msgiv.brandenburg.de/msgiv/de/presse/pressemitteilungen/detail/~19-03-2020-corona-faelle-stand-19032020-08-00-uhr.). Morgenpost is already showing that number, but zeit.de does still show 171. So it seems to me that zeit.de is simply a bit slower in updating their numbers compared to Morgenpost.
Hello @leipert and @asmaier -- thanks for the discussion!
Yes, we kind of have to rely on someone to do the tedious job of constantly watching out for press releases of individual state-level health ministries. I am glad that ZEIT ONLINE and Morgenpost are doing that for us (I tried to do it myself, it's possible, but rather tedious, of course).
It's important they they do it on a daily level. Within a day, however, it's totally OK that they do it at slightly different times ... :-).
Closing this issue, feel free to reopen!
We could of course consider using Berliner Morgenpost for /now
now, but I am cutting ZEIT ONLINE some slack here. Got a good impression of ZEIT ONLINE's data collection within the past days. I am confident that they will catch up quickly.
I am however also considering to consult both, and simply take the newest, and return that via /now
. WDYT @asmaier?
@asmaier https://covid19-germany.appspot.com/now is now based on multiple sources (ZEIT ONLINE, Berliner Morgenpost) and reports the more recent case count.
The Berliner Morgenpost also seems to parse data from the German federal state health ministries. However their numbers are slightly different to the numbers of zeit.de:
https://interaktiv.morgenpost.de/corona-virus-karte-infektionen-deutschland-weltweit/
Is there an explanation to why this is the case?
