I have no idea why the two sources differ but I think CoL is incorrect. Most publications, including the Mammalian Species account, attribute J.A. Wagner 1843. The publication is in German, but the title translates to “Diagnoses of new species of Brazilian hand flutters” which aligns with the distribution of Pteronotus gymnonotus. The few publications that I saw that attributed Natterer 1843 did not include a citation. (edited)
