We started using it in December 2023. I think it allows us to geolocate IP addresses.
I never got a warning about usage limits before, but on Jul 26 it said we were at 76% usage. Then on July 30, 90% usage.
I'm not sure why the usage is going up so quickly now; 14% in 4 days. I'm not sure if this usage it is referring to is monthly. If so, then at this rate, we'd just barely use up our limit every month.
I'm also not sure why suddenly the usage would be higher than normal. We shouldn't have a lot of users right now, and our GitHub actions shouldn't be running more frequently this month. I haven't tweaked how many run / how often in a few months. Perhaps they lowered the monthly limit.
I'm also not sure on what day each month the limit renews. Maybe the 1st?
In any case, the main crux of this issue:
Will something critical break if we run out?
If the only thing that breaks is the geolocation, do we care?
Siggie thinks it will potentially cause errors or instability if this API fails due to being maxed out. So it would be good to make sure nothing happens if the API gets maxed out.
