Windows 7 wont connect

Which device (manufacturer, type)?
Nexus 1

Which firmware is installed?
CM5 Beta 3

What version of wireless tether are you using?
2.0 pre3

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. start tethering app
2. try to connect using Lenovo ThinkPad window 7 64bit
3. Fails to connect right away.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Being able to connect.

Please provide any additional information below.

The Wifi Tether app works fine on my device with iPhone and Windows XP
laptop however when i try to connect using two recently purchased Lenovo
Windows 7 64Bit laptops (two different models, but have the same Intel NIC)
it fails right away "windows was unable to connect". no other details.
The second attempt it wont fail right away, but it will fail after 1-2
minutes on the same error.

Seems like the N1 hardware and the intel hardware installed on these
laptops wont play nice.
I have the latest drivers on both laptops.

I have a similar issue.  The culprit seems to be a combination of Intel WiFi 
cards
and/or Intel Drivers.  I've tested with Intel 1000 BGN, 5100 AGN and 5300 AGN 
WiFi
cards.  None of them work correctly with android-wifi-tether 2.0pre3 or pre4.
However, iPod Touch & a random Windows 7 x64 notebook with an Atheros-based WiFi
chipset connects perfectly fine to Nexus One running 2.0 pre4.

Irony is, same machines that have Intel WiFi cards that cannot connect to N1 
running
2.0pre3 or pre4, connects perfectly fine with my older G1 with 
android-wifi-tether.

@dankao: Could you please try -pre4 on your G1? The nexusone has a 
broadcom-wifi-chip
built-in - the G1 has texas-instruments-chip. Would be interesting to know if 
-pre4
works on your G1 (in combination with win7).

@harald.mue: Loaded -pre4 and moved my TMobile SIM card from my N1 back to my 
G1.
Tested with notebooks that have Intel 1000 BGN, 5100 AGN and 5300 AGN WiFi 
cards.
They all work properly with the G1. (No changes to notebook settings). Let me 
know if
you need any logs or dmesg, etc. from either the G1 or N1. But it looks like 
there's
definitely a compatibility issue with N1 and Intel WiFi (least in AdHoc mode).

I'd like to leave some feedback, even though I have the Sprint Hero and not the 
Nexus
One. However, I do have Win7 x64 and it connects using pre5 perfectly. I have 
the
Dell E6500 with the Intel 5150 WiFi/WiMax card.

As an update to the original post:
I just got a cheap Belkin USB Wireless G stick, and it connected right away 
from the
laptop it would not connect before with the intel card.
I have an Intel 5100N card which wont connect to the phone, so as Dankao said, 
this
has something to do with intel card.

I had on a HP Elitebook running Windows XP 32-Bit w/ a Intel AGN 5300 also 
connection problems. Intel released a new driver for their 5100 and 5300 cards. 
After installing the new driver version, I was able to connect immediately to 
the 
WiFi network. However, the connection drops in random intervals, sometimes 
after 2 
seconds, sometimes after 1 minute.

UPDATE: I can CONFIRM the following configuration WORKS which previously didn't.

* Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
* Wireless Tether 2.0 pre7
* Intel WiFi Drivers 13.1.1.1 (02/26/2010)
* Intel WiFi 1000 BGN
* WEP-off (No encryption enabled)
* CM 5.0.4.1 ROM on N1

It has been stable for over 10 minutes now (I'm posting via WiFi tether).

Update on comment 19: The connection IS STABLE now. I was not able to replicate 
the 
connection drops. I am working now since over two hours over tethering.
The installation of the new drivers seems to have fixed connection problems to 
WiFi 
routers in general.

Config:
 - Windows XP Professional SP3
 - Wireless Tether 2.0 Pre7
 - Intel Wifi Drivers 13.1.1.1 (02/26/2010)
 - Intel Wifi 5300 AGN
 - WEP (w/ and w/o enabled encryption)
 - CM 5.0.4.1 ROM on Nexus One

I had the same problem (comment 1) with Nexus One, Windows Vista and Intel Wifi 
5100 
AGN. Updating the Intel drivers to 13.1.1.1 fixed the problem.

If you right click on the Wireless Icon in your taskbar and choose Trouble 
shoot follow the prompts and it will be resolved. It indicated that no DHCP 
server was available.

Just Rooted my EVO with 2.2 Had rooted a different EVO before with 2.0 and the 
Wireless tether worked great. Now it seems that even though it runs fine and my 
laptop connects to the phone there is no internet access. Using Windows 7 32 
bit on laptop. Rooted last night via forum instructions on XDA Developers. All 
went fine with no complications so far. The Wireless tether app installed just 
like before but doesn't allow my laptop internet access.

I am rooted on the Droid X 2.1, and my Win 7 64 laptop will not connect to the 
internet. Let me explain. I have tried pre9, pre8, and 2.0.2, and in all cases, 
the app installs fine, I start tethering, and my laptop sees the connection, 
and connects successfully. I check the status of the connection on my laptop, 
and it says connected, and I see that data is being sent and received, but 
whenever I open up Firefox, no web page loads, although data is being 
transferred. 

I also installed the newest Intel drivers as well as the 13.1.1.1 drivers, and 
no change. I also tried with WEP encryption, and without, and still no 
internet. 

I can connect other devices just fine to the wifi tether, but I cannot get 
access via my laptop. The app installs fine, everything works good, laptop 
connects, and data is being transferred, but I cannot get on the internet no 
matter what I do.

I have tried every combination of settings and still it won't connect.
The phone never detects a client connection and the PC won't pull a valid IP it 
just defaults to the 169.x.x.x BS.
I have tried manually setting the AdHoc channel on the phone and adapter, 
changing the network and more.

I also tried to reinstall the binaries from the setup menu.

Having the same issue as rodgolding. EVO 2.2. Windows 7 32 bit on a netbook. 
Connects to the wireless network but says there is no internet access. No clue 
what to do.

13.1.1.1 drivers (i tried all the newer ones since then also)

droid 1 running 2.2 rooted with cyanogen 6.0

laptop will see android ad-hoc, connect, but no internet through the tether
help?

stock Epic 4G (Samsung Galaxy) + root
wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre9.apk

Lenovo ThinkPad T500 with Win7 32 bit; Intel PRO/wireless card.

The original wireless drivers could not connect to the network created by WiFi 
Tether.
After upgrading to latest Intel PRO/Wireless driver, and rebooting, I could 
successfully connect, but could not get DHCP lease.

Next, I removed and re-installed pre9.apk, changed the SSID to a short ALLCAPS 
name (versus the default AndroidTether), went under Menu->Access Control, 
enabled Access-control and check-marked to allow my notebook.

After these steps, I was able to connect, get DHCP lease, and was able to get 
online.

Just rooted my Evo tonight and put Wireless Tether on.  Gettng the same problem 
with my Sony Vaio.  I have a Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN internal card 
with driver version 13.3.0.24 (latest from Intel as of 11/4/10).

This version supports master/infrastructure-mode for your phone. You shouldn't 
have a "driver-problem" with this ...

I have only used them for a USB tethered connection (using the built in option 
in the OTA update from TMobile for the G2 that came out this week) rather than

I am running Windows 7 64-bit on a Lenovo Thinkpad T410, and was also unable to 
connect to the hotspot with my Intel Wireless-N 6150 card.  To fix this issue, 
I made the following change:

- Under the Advanced tab of the wireless card's Device Properties (in Device 
Manager), I changed the "Ad Hoc Channel 802.11b/g" setting to match the same 
channel I have configured in the Hotspot app (in this case, Channel 11).  

Connects fine now!

P.S. I am using 2.0.5-pre12

I'm running Windows XP, wireless card is wireless card is 802.1N, router is 
802.11b
I'm trying this:
Control Panel--> System--> Hardware--> Device Manager and under the Network 
Adapters section select Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6200 AGN; right click 
and select Properties, under the Advanced tab I see 'Wireless Mode', the 
"mode". It defaults to [802.11a, 80211b and 802.11g.]

Is there anything else I need to do?  I drop connection every 5-10 minutes.
