What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Compile the Toy version of MinD
2. Install using make install
3. Configure for proxy:proxy in /etc/mind/mind.conf
4. Create /var/run/mind/ directory and change permission to proxy:proxy
5. Modify mind.conf for pid file /var/run/mind/mind.pid
6. Ensure that /etc/mind/mind.conf is readable by proxy user
6. su to proxy account and run /usr/sbin/mind

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Would expect to see a mind process running however none exists.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
MinD 1.0 -> Debian Lenny 5.0.4

Please provide any additional information below.
I've attached the strace file. This problem could be that I don't understand
how to start and run the process. All attempts to use sudo have also failed.
