[TTS] - Patch for Improving Swedish eSpeak Example Phrase #43

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Get yourself an Android 2.1 enabled device.
2. Install Test-To-Speech Extended v2.0 from Market.
3. Start the app (opens the settings screen).
4. Switch default language to "Swedish [sv]".
5. Press "Listen to a preview"

Current result:
Phone says "Hej".

Expected result:
Phone should speak a phrase, not just a word. Suggested phrase for Swedish is:
"Jag har en morbror som inte tycker om fisk, så han har korv i sitt akvarium."

English translation is roughly: "I have an uncle who doesn't like fish, so he
keeps sausages in his aquarium."

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
2.0 on Android 2.1 / HTC Hero.

Will review for necessity. At the very least, the test phase will need to be
more generic. Also, TTS has now become part of the Android Framework and the
"Listen to an Example" text may be generated by the specific TTS engine. I
will confirm this and update this issue once a consensus is reached.

Thanks for looking into this!

With the current single-word test phrase it's really hard to hear if my speech
rate and engine settings are any good.

Regards /Johan

Thanks again for sending us the patch. Unfortunately, we're declining the fix
at this time. As of Android 2.2 (Froyo), TTS settings and example output has
been moved into the framework and should offer a more robust example phrase.
