Change backup file extensions in Linux #526

In Linux, a better option would be to add a tilde to the backup files' 
extensions (example.gif~) instead of replacing the whole extension 
(example.BAK) as follows with software such as Gedit, Vim and file managers 
such as Nautilus and Thunar (which hide the files with such extensions just 
like hidden .dotfiles).
