Battery "fuel gauge" using FrSky telemetry with current shunt #24

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

Please describe the feature you would like added

Display amount of energy drawn from a battery pack using FrSky telemetry.

Please offer any specific implementation methods you might have in mine

Use one of the A/D inputs on the FrSky telemetry RXes with a current shunt to
transmit instantaneous current readings to the 9X. On the 9X, integrate
current readings over time to show total energy drawn out of a pack. Maybe add
the ability to set the pack capacity and trigger an alarm when some percentage
of the pack's capacity has been exhausted.

This is a good idea. But it might be better implemented (more accurate) using
an onboard telemetry hub to insert this data into in a 'user data' serial
stream.

We're yet to get to that stage with Fr-Sky, since we've been concentrating on
foundation code for the new circuit boards, etc. But at some point, we aim to
hopefully utilise some pre-existing telemetry hub for this sort of thing and
more -- rather than re-invent that wheel, along with everything else. :D

I've heard the Fr-Sky are working on prototype telemetry hub products. Perhaps
they're on the market already. I'm not sure -- need to look it up again. If
that happens though, then it will probably make most sense to implement our
system based around those products.

Interesting ... you found a way to remove labels. Or did you just change an
existing one, which then caused a -old +new event?

I tried to find documentation on how Google intends this to be used. Could not
find anything.
