I've been having a look at the "Guidelines for Handling Image Metadata" available from http://www.metadataworkinggroup.org/specs/
This lays down clear rules about reconciling conflicts when metadata is stored in multiple formats (e.g. EXIF and XMP). I propose to make Photini comply with these guidelines, at the risk of making it less compatible with other (non compliant) software.
