Strange to answer my own post... As long as there are no rulers inside the editor, here are some workarounds:
One can use an external ruler and measure on the screen. If the zoom is set to 100%, the size on the screen matches the printed size. A nice feature which does at least work on Linux Mint 20.2 and Win10 but lacks accuracy.
Another workaround is to draw a line or rectangle and look at its properties. This compensates the lack of a tiny measurement tool.
Another feature request together with rulers could be an adjustable grid. So one can e.g. set it to 5x5mm for an easy guess of sizes.

Grid surely deserves it's own feature request! 👍
It would be great to have a horizontal and vertical ruler inside the editor. This should respect the userdefined units of the label (mm, inch, ...) and scale with the zoom. With such a tool it would be easier to
