Tag and author search by keyword #219

I have just installed v80 after using qiqqa for a number of years, and it seems like the search box below the tag/author list is no longer there. I used that function a lot, and would really like to see it reinstated!

Dont recall off the top of my head (AFK most hours of the day here ) but isnt search moved to top right above list of documents?

Havent spotted any significant ui changes from commercial v79 to v80 back then but doesnt mean there werent any.

Would your searches specifically filter on authors or tags only? (the search box top right would be more generic IIRC)

In the previous version I was using (not sure which one though), and also in the qiqqa manual image on page 9, there are 2 different search functions. One was on the left handside (top and bottom) and allowed you to filter tags/authors, and was quite handy because you could type only the first few letters and see all matching results in the tags/authors list. It just made navigating through tags and authors a lot faster if (like me) you had a lot of them. That does not appear to be in v80, and I think it may not have been in v79 either. The other search box is still there, on the top right, and allows for more generic searches. I did like having both in the other version, because it made filtering by tag or author a lot faster.

Thanks for all your work on this, it is much appreciated!

Aha!

Good one. Should be re-introduced.

No worries regarding the timeline, I just thought I'd make the suggestion!

As for the options you discuss, the search function already allows to search tags or authors by typing 'tag:climate' or 'author:Jackson', but as I see it this is not as good as having both search boxes for a number of reasons (though you may disagree!).

First, the search function requires the full tag or name to be typed in order to return results, whereas the old filter function was more flexible (you could type 'John' to filter authors and get results for Johnson and Johnston, for example).

Second, the tag/author filter search box allowed to search for tags or authors and then filter those results with a further keyword search in the main search function, which made it quite powerful. When using only the search function, one can search for tags or authors, but once this is done one cannot filter the results further with keywords, because by erasing the search terms the search results also disappear.

I am unfortunately not qualified to comment on the IT/code side of things and will trust your expertise for these matters! These comments are only about my experience as a user.

Thanks again!
