I’m reaching out to your company because I have been a recent victim of a cryptocurrency scam. I matched with an individual on Hinge in January. We began talking on WhatsApp and began discussing cryptocurrency. He directed me to a site called Bityard where I would contact customer service to receive an address to send Bitcoin from Coinbase into this platform where I had invested over $142,000 at the time
Long story short, when I tried to take all of the money out in March, I was told that I was required to pay taxes on the funds first. I was given two weeks to come up with $61,000. After successfully paying off the taxes, I once again requested to withdraw the funds but was told by customer service that the bank account didn’t match my user information. They sent my account to their risk management department and I was informed that I would need to pay a 30% security deposit or wait 3-6 months for the company to verify my identity. The 30% deposit was $81,000. On April 28th around 1pm, I sent the last of the security deposit payment to Bityard. Around 4:30pm customer service informs me that deposit has been paid and to wait for my account to be unlocked. I waited for 30 minutes before asking them if my account had been unlocked. The app glitches and I was logged out. Every time I tried to log back in, I received a notification that my account had been disabled. I was no longer able to contact customer service either. Every time I managed to reach their page, my messages went unread or the app timed out again. By midnight on April 29th, the app and the website were no longer available.
I’ve filed a complaint with the FBI and another company, but no one has responded to me. I’m really hoping you can help retrieve my stolen funds or you perhaps know someone who can. I work in the medical field and I’ve risked my life these past two years to treat sick Covid patients. It’s absolutely despicable that someone would scam people out of their hard earned money.
I kept screenshots of some of the messages from customer service on Bityard. I’ve also backed up my messages on WhatsApp from this individual who goes by Chen. I have a screenshot of his phone number and Facebook page, however he recently changed phone numbers because he “lost” his phone. He also told me about a new site that replaced Bityard. I downloaded the app as well and their customer service page is identical to Bityard. The real BTCEX can be downloaded on the App Store, but the one that Chen provided required me to download it from their fake site. Oddly enough, I received a message last week on Hinge from an individual who has Chen’s Facebook profile picture and several other pictures of him on his profile. The app told me I matched with him, but I’ve never come across his profile before so I find it oddly suspicious. I’ve taken screenshots of this profile as well.
