Major performance issues on lower-end hardware #9324

This is related to the Matrix Element (AppImage) client widget for voice calling through Jitsi-meet (not sure if it's this or the lib)

I've been having major issues with performance causing severe lag for everyone which leads to echo-cancellation failing to work for them and severe stuttering or disconnection for me.

this is a comparison with 4 people in basic voice call with the widget window hidden (I'm in the room with the panel closed) (if there were any desktop sharing, the CPU would be 100% (even with the window hidden), though virtual/web camera doesn't seem to affect much) so this is all just with voice calls: with_jitsi and after leaving the call: without_jitsi

my hardware is an Intel Atom D2550 at 1.83GHz with HT disabled (better performance) and yes as the AppImage gives away, my OS is linux :+1:

hopefully things can be improved :) what I expect is for my CPU to hold around ~35% rather than ~70% for this, since that's what I was previously able to achieve with Discord, back when I had an account.
