Well, seems there are different things here:
I guess you can use kalu even if you don't have a systray. It might work just fine, and it will still show notifications (assuming you have a notification daemon ofc) as usual. And if you want those to stay forever just set them to never expire in preferences.
In such a case, you can't really interact with kalu, since it's (only) GUI entry point is its systray icon (though notifications will still get their buttons), but you can still make use of its FIFO. So e.g. write "show-last-notifs" to re-show the last notifications, "popup-menu" to get the menu, etc -- It's all in the help/man page.
Another possible solution depending on your needs: use kalu as a CLI app, and capture/parse its output. It's possible to do so, even to compile it as a CLI-only app!
kalu does have a GUI for system upgrades, but it doesn't allow to do partial upgrades (since those aren't supported in Arch Linux).
No worries, "issues" is fine. And for the record I'm pretty sure my email is in the help/man page ;)
So I believe you might be able to do what you want already. As for adding another UI outside of the systray icon, I'm not really for doing so, no. I understand some people such as yourself might not have a systray area, but as I said it should already be possible to use kalu in such cases. I might be willing to make changes to help/improve things if needed then, but not adding another interface.
Sorry for late answer. Thank you for the answer! I haven't being more looking into, was occupied with things, but I will get to it eventually.
Hello, I am a user who does not use DE, only a simple window manager (Compiz). I hate all unnecessary gui bloat and I don't use any kind of startbar, starter, kickstarter, menubar etc etc etc. Only visible thing I have on my desk beside a wallpaper is one very simple Conky showing current date & time, and that's it.
I wonder if I could get Kalu to display a notify button on my desk, only when updates are avialable. I could than click on it and choose what updates I wish to install, or maybe which ones I would not like to install.
I am sorry I am using "issues" to ask for this, you are free to close it or delete this post, I just didn't know how else to contact devs and ask for this feature.
Best wishes /arthur
