From: Sullivan, Deirdre [Deirdre.Sullivan@bl.uk](mailto:Deirdre.Sullivan@bl.uk) Sent: Wednesday, May 1, 2024 12:41 To: Kiraly, Peter Cc: McGregor, Nora Subject: Invitation for talk at the British Library

Dear Péter,

Hello, and I hope this email finds you well! I’m reaching out on behalf of the Digital Research team at the British Library, to see if you’d have any interest in delivering a remote talk for colleagues here? Your excellent talk on '„Dark Matter: X%” How many early modern Hungarian books did disappear without any trace?' was shared in our Digital Scholarship group here, and sparked a lot of interest and some great conversations! Would you be happy to deliver a talk on the work done as part of this project, as well as some of the logistics, and hows and whys behind the work?

I believe Nora (copied in here too) said she’s reached out to you already about this, but I’ll give you a little background on the talks and format in case that wasn’t covered! This talk would be held as part of our Digital Scholarship Training Programme, which is delivered for staff at the Library here to learn the basics & beyond about digital humanities. It would be part of our 21st Century Curatorship Talk series which focuses on cool, innovative, and current topics in DH. These talks are generally pitched for complete beginners – we try not to assume knowledge so that anyone from any department can come along.

Format wise, the talks last an hour and would be hosted via Microsoft Teams (unless you happen to be passing in or around London, then we’d love to have you join in person!). There would be an appx. 5 min introduction by us, covering etiquette and a quick introduction of you and the topic, followed by your presentation (anywhere from 30-45 mins), and finally a Q&A with the audience. But we’ve also had longer talks for bigger topics, or shorter presentations to allow for more discussion at the end so it can absolutely be flexible to suit your needs. For this topic, and assuming we’ll have beginners and technically minded colleagues, I’d definitely recommend more time for questions & discussions from folk who want to get into the nitty-gritty of it!

Let me know if that all sounds okay and like something you’d be interested in delivering! At this point we’d be looking at scheduling any time from June onwards, so if this sounds workable to you and there’s a timeframe that would work especially well for you please let me know and I can suggest some dates! Feel free to shoot over any questions you may have as well.

Many thanks, Deirdre Sullivan

We work flexibly - so while it suits me to email now, I do not expect a response or action outside of your own working hours. My typical working pattern is Mon-Fri, 7:30-15:30.
