Dear Cees,

This is a tough one..

Hotjar is quite unclear about the motives of this cookie see: https://help.hotjar.com/hc/en-us/articles/6952777582999-Cookies-Set-by-the-Hotjar-Tracking-Code

Given the complexities around jurisdictions, privacy laws/regulations, and how you and your team intend to use Hotjar, it's best that you seek guidance from your own legal counsel when determining which cookies need to be listed on your site and whether or not a cookie manager should be utilized.

Hotjar does not clarify what this cookie means in the retargeting context. There are retargeting / audience / segment options in hotjar that clearly rely on this cookie. Why do you think that this identification cookie should be listed under analytics other then the fact that some other platform has marked it as analytics?

Kind regards,

Jack Kwakman

Hi @jkwakman ,

Maybe you're right. Maybe I'm not correct at all. I also have to say it was sort of an estimated guess. I mean how is HotJar NOT setting non-functional cookies haha. I was also just following the URL I mentioned earlier and did not really do good research.
