Hello, my name is Jamie Godbout. I have been working in automation for about 16 years now. I mostly work in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and food industries. I specialize in batch systems using Rockwell’s FT Batch platform. I have taken a stab at building an Ignition library to work with the PlantPAx library a couple of times and made some good progress, however, just as I get something close to being done I usually run into a complete platform change either from Rockwell or Ignition. Any I’m glad to be able to work with a team on this.
Hi, my name is Max Carritt, I'm an american currently based in Berlin, Germany working as a freelancer (www.scadatorch.com). I've worked in automation for about 7-8 years, and the last 4-5 have had Ignition almost daily. I previously helped a large US integrator develop Ignition plant pax faceplates/templates/udts and we felt it was a very successful product. Hopefully I can take some of those lessons learned and help accelerate the process here. Looking forward to building something great!
Thanks guys, there should be 1-2 more joining soon too.
Hello, my name is Dan Tracy, I am relatively new to all of this compared to you guys. I have been an Automation Engineer for almost 9 months now, but have been around automation as an intern for the last few years while in school. We primarily work with water treatment, waste water treatment, dairies, and agriculture. I have done a couple projects with Ignition and really like it. I have seen how good Plant PAX is and my boss is interested in trying to move that over to ignition. I think this is going to be a cool project with a lot to learn and figure out. I look forward to making some progress.
Glad to have you on board Dan. Its great that this project aligns with your work. Hopefully that means you'll have more time to contribute!
Are you familiar with git? Take a look at the README file in the repo for instructions to get your system going. Give me a call if you want to walk through it. After you're set up, I can help you get started on an issue.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me or anyone in this group. You can post a discussion issue here, or reach me at the contact info below. I check LinkedIn pretty frequently too, I'll see if I can find you to connect. joseph.burns@jlbcontrols.com [removed phone#]
Max - when would be a good time to do a screen share/phone call? I'm free most of Thursday and Friday.
Thanks Joseph,
I’ll take a look at the read me file to get up and going. I’ll let you know if I have any questions. I would like to put all of my Rockwell software on virtual machines, have you done this before? I set up virtualization servers with VMs all the time but I haven’t done with a type 2 hypervisor on my laptop.

Let's do it first thing thursday, my number is [removed phone#], or we can use the audio in Zoom if you use that.

Yes I just use VirtualBox. Its pretty simple, and has worked well for me.

Sounds good!

Hi Guys, My name is Tord van Delft, I come from Norway, and i have been working with automation for the last 10 years, where the last 5 has been with Ignition. I know Rockwell systems very well, and have some good knowledge of the PlantPax systems. I work for a company called Goodtech, which is the largest independent automation firm in Scandinavia.
I have been the main developer of a PlantPax v3.5 system, se the attached screenshot:
Adapting v3.5 into v4.1 is a big change and not very compatible(as with most of Rockwells product updates). I hope to have some ideas of how we can create the 4.1 library to fit all projects, without making it too complicated.
Glad to have you on board, I'm looking forward to your input! Please feel free to create issues, comment on the others, and assign yourself issues that you would like to work on. You can also reach out to me directly, or anyone in this group. Let me know when you have time for a phone call/screen share!
Hi, my name is Chad Shoopman. I will be using/testing the library with a project I am working on. I do the controls for our small company, self-taught. I am trying to get our HMI switched from FTView to Ignition.
Hi everyone, my name is Arnaud De Clerck. I'm a plc/scada developer for 8 years now here in Belgium and have experience in Rockwell and siemens plc and various scada. You might maybe hear my name in some presentation of ignition exchange platform since i have developed a project like flintium but on a siemens based library. Now that my project is on good rails, i was thinking of make the same with the plantPax library and convert the faceplate into perspective. Now due to your knowhow on the vision faceplate i would like to join the project and develop this feature at your side. Together we are stronger. Regards Arnaud
Glad to have you on the Flintium team @ArnaudDeClerck ! There's been quite a bit of user interest in Perspective faceplates, so your contribution will be very much appreciated. Please feel free to create issues to share your ideas/start discussions. I'll kick things off by creating a few new issues to remove the perspective folder from gitignore, and another for upgrading the project to the latest Ignition version. Go ahead and comment on any issues that you would like to work on, and I will assign it to you.
My name is Jón F. Hjartar, been involved in PLC's, HMI's and Scada since 2003 with various platforms. Stumbled upon this project while looking further into factorypacks when I needed some more integration w PPax and fully agree with @jlbcontrols that Ignition could use a more extensive library for automation.
However, I have limited experience with Git and Docker and could use some help to get started and I will contribute if I make something useful. No longer a full time developer (due to management duties) but I still try to make myself useful from time to time :)
Regards, Jón F.
Welcome Jón, glad you found us! Git won't be a problem, I'm happy to help you get up to speed or incorporate your contribution for you.
Hello, my name is Adam Burns. I have been involved in automation since 2004. Primarily with AB and some Siemens. I am just now starting to use the Ignition platform for a project we have. The original project was in FactoryTalk SE using the PlantPax blocks. We have been asked to switch it to Ignition and I found this group. I would love to get some help setting this up and will try to give feedback where I can.
Hey Adam, glad to have you on board! Migration is really the ideal use case for Flintium. Please keep us posted with your progress, and feel free to post issues here as challenges arise, I'm happy to help.
Hi Everyone, thanks for joining the project. My name is Joe Burns, and I have been an automation engineer for 10 years. I have worked in a number of different industries, including power, defense, nuclear, semiconductor, pharma and mining. I’ve always wished the Ignition community had a standard automation library. I’m very excited this team is coming together to work on it. I’m looking forward to working with you.
