1 year ago Play has been restored in a manner consistent with the original game. Some time was spent investigating why "Coach only; let computer shoot" wasn't allowing to coach passes, but this was a misunderstanding of the intention for that option. The manual does not explain this option either.
It is not clear what code was related to the issue but a line-by-line comparison to original did yield some logic tweaks that ultimately fixed things.
Choosing the PC as a team (wherein the other player is to be the end user) allows selecting starting lineup / etc. and shows options for pass / shoot, but proceeds to play the game without any input from the end user. (as if having autoplayed a game)
