What went well?
This trimester was all about growth for our group. We were able to communicate efficiently outside of the classroom and create a website that functions well for our site's purpose. At N@TM, we all had a good time presenting our website to the other classes and showing off the product of our work this past trimester.
What didn't go that well?
Our group was great at communicating with each other and making plans, but we did struggle a bit presenting and developing far before the deadline. We did most of our work the day before the week's assignment is due. This led to us to struggle with many of the required tasks and get them functioning well. N@TM, though, was awesome overall and we all got a chance to show off our website and view other peoples' work.
What did every team member learn?
We all learned a lot about what it means to work together as a cohesive group. Our most important revelation was that planning is king. Filling out our github scrum board and readme in order to plan out the week has helped us stay organized and focus on the week tasks. In the future, we will know to plan out everything we want to do before we go into the work.
What puzzles every team member?
Something that puzzled us as a whole is how to implement the database into the website. We all helped Rohan K with getting it work, but we weren't able to figure it out in the end. Other than specifics, how to connect college board with web development was also a source of puzzlement. Some of the college board topics didn't really make their way into our site, but looking back on it we could have definitely used more of the info we acquired from the college board checks.
What was your favorite mini-lab project?
My favorite mini-lab project was the grayscale lab. We spent a lot of time getting everything to work, and I was able to finish a feature I was proud of. That feature was the toggle button which allowed the user to switch from grayscale to colored images and back by clicking it. I was proud of getting this recursive function to work, and it even ended up being a good addition to our project as a roster page.
What was your favorite CB topic?
My favorite CB topic would have to be topic 4. The loops that we learned about in this topic were very useful for our website. For loops especially were extremely important for getting array loops to work as well as finishing some mini labs. The individual final I had to do was benefited greatly by topic 4 because I ended up doing a 2D grid that required the use of arrays and for loops.
Identify in priority order biggest challenges.
In general we had about 3 main challenges. The first challenge would definitely be the database because it would have been a great addition to our project but we weren't able to get it to work no matter how much we tried. Our second challenge would have to be planning. In order to improve our planning we should list out each tangible we need to produce for the week on github. The final challenge would have to be deployment because it was something our group member, Justin, struggled with for a while. It took us a while to get it working for our website.
What was your favorite N@tM project?
My favorite N@TM project would definitely be one of the photos from the photography class. All of their works were extremely precise and pleasing to the eye. I have always been interested in good photography, and all of their pictures were awesome to see.
