I reinstalled all the kexts one by one into library/extensions and rebuilt the kext cache each time. They are all successful. Everything works... display, audio, headphone, etc. The wifi card is being a pain. It still hangs at 50% progress during the apple logo boot. I was able to get to the desktop one time and bluetooth was recognized and functional. However, wifi showed an X and not configured. Strange... I don't know what else to try.
You quite possibly have a fake card - use Linux/Windows to check the MAC address of the card and compare it to the one on the device - in my case, they were different.
I bought a DW1820A from Aliexpress and it worked fine in Windows and Linux, but I spent over a week with macOS and had the same issue as you.
Wow. Thank you. I think you might be correct. If it is fake... then is there no fixing it other than purchasing an authentic DW1820A? I purchased mine on eBay and it came from China. It looks totally unbranded and the instructions are in chinese.
Do some checks to confirm it's fake, then request a refund through ebay. I tried through Aliexpress but they refused it, despite supplying evidence.
In the end, I just paid for a DW1560 and it worked straight out of the box. Should have done that in the first place!

Do I have to change any kexts to use the dw1560 or will the setup i have now work?
For me, it worked with this repo but your mileage may vary. I may have added other kexts while fighting with the DW1820A.
Most people recommend DW1560 and there is a decent amount of advice about it on the forums.

I ordered a DW1560 and it should be here Monday. Of course, the seller of my original DW1820A says they are all tested before shipped and that there is nothing wrong with it so they wont take it back. I didn't pay much for it but still a bummer.
Done and done. DW1560 came, I put it in, followed the directions here to the letter and included the wifi files for the DS1820A from the beginning by putting them in the EFI folder. Done. Flawless. Easy. Airdrop, bluetooth, wifi, everything out of the box perfect. Thank you wenguin for your suggestion for the alternative DW1560 card and thank you jloisel for creating such an easy to follow and thorough guide.
I followed your guide and everything went perfectly. Installed without the dw1820a using ethernet, then I removed the whitelist, added the config and kexts from the dw1820a folder into the EFI partition, installed the dw1820a, and now the system hangs at the apple logo about half way through the progress bar. If I remove the dw1820a, it boots just fine. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thank you.
