Hi, all contributors.

Has anyone try to upgrade to BigSur yet?

Regards,

I did over the weekend. I should have an update and a how to in the next few days. So far works better than Catalina. I was never able to get Catalina running correctly on the T440P, so I stayed on Mojave until now.

Please do a pull request with updated kexts etc. So I can merge it once it's working!

@2000c43 , Do you have any update? Have you try Big Sur?

2000c43 commented 3 years ago

Yes. I got it working perfectly (other than no card reader and no WWAN). Here is my summary and links to necessary files. https://2000c43.com/

EFI Zip (taken from your website, as it's pretty hard to find within the article):

EFI-20201203T172653Z-001.zip

Nice, but you are using OpenCore. I'm not sure that the EFI will work the same as Clover.

MohrJonas commented 3 years ago

Clover doesn't support Big Sur. Use OpenCore instead.

Is there a kext to enable ultrabay hdd on Big Sur?

2000c43 commented 3 years ago

On my BigSur install, I have a SSD in the normal spot and an additional SSD in the ultrabay for BigSur. Works perfectly without any fiddling.

Re4ctor commented 3 years ago

Oh, mine has a ntfs drive in it, maybe i need osxfuse. I recall that on my Mojave install i had to use the 2 kext to enable ahcpi for devices, as it suggested in jloisel guide for Mojave/Catalina

@2000c43 the weird thing is that from diskutil i cant see the partitions,i see only a uninitialized disk

2000c43 commented 3 years ago

Strange. I didn't do anything extraordinary. I created the USB install disk, replaced the EFI on the USB install disk with the OpenCore EFI, booted from USB, went to diskutil, seleced View / Show All Volumes, and formatted the entire hard drive in the ultra bay. I didn't make partitions or anything. I have one SSD for Windows and a separate SSD in the ultra bay for Big Sur. Then I quit disk util and installed Big Sur.

Re4ctor commented 3 years ago

The disk in the ultrabay is an apfs one? I have a 500 gb disk with 3 partition: -ext4 for linux home -efi backup -ntfs data partition that i use on windows as shared one on multiple Os's

On Mojave i can see the entire disk with the single partitions in details, from Big sur i see the whole 500gb disk as unintiailzed.

The only difference between Big Sur conf and Mojave is that on Big sur i didnt specify the ultrabay kext, it's very strange, as u said, it shuld work out of the box. (sorry for english misspelling but is not my main language :( )

Now, Clover support Big Sur as well. @jloisel Any plan to upgrade to Clover_r5127?

jloisel commented 3 years ago

If there is anyone willing to try it out, I don't have any t440p available as of now to test it.

I am using the EFI you have provided and successfully installed and booted Big Sur. For Wifi, I'm using airportitlwm kext for Big Sur. The only problem I have is the sound. I have tried using the fix from your website but no luck. Even tried using 1.5.9 AppleALC.kext but still the same issue. Any tips/suggestions? Thanks!

I decided to re-download your EFI again and start afresh! Previously, I encountered an OCS: No Schema... error. I attempted to fix it by using config.plist: Sanity Checker. I ended up breaking my audio. I even tried using a different EFI but with the same result. I found out that the schema error was due to using an older bootloader. The broken audio was due to me tampering with config.plist recklessly. It was certainly a fun learning curb!

PS: The responsiveness of the trackpad is amazing! Whatever you may have done.. Whatever it is, I'm not patching it. Learned it the hard way.
