Buttons look nice. Only buttons.
May be it's possible to set different frames for different parts.

Dialogs and other windows could be decorated as lines at the top and the bottom 
WITHOUT lines by sides, but blurring space at sides.

Or may be without canvas at all, just by making it look like 3D elements.
Also, have a look at XMMS skins and such, may be something nice exists that can 
be ported.
