ring gears and clearance

The clearance factor adds to the dedendum but in Ring gears this encroaches on inner surface which prevents gear mesh.

• Should we be adding to Addendum if doing ring gears ?
• What impact does profile shifting have on this ?

Good point. Yes for ring gears, clearance must go on the addendum side. Profile shifting would work normally, except that in this case both gears would need identical shift, rather than opposite sign.
