Often it can be useful to know board revision for other things like I2C bus to
use.
RPI_REVISION is not that well documented, except in the realms of the source,
most users do not delve that deep.
A suggestion is that
either more documentation about the variable
or a new function to return it
or return value from functions like setmode when you are morelikely to be
worrying about the board revision
