TbSync used to manage all calendars, contacts and tasks in my Nextcloud account. If a new calendar or address book became available in Nextcloud, for example because someone in our organization shared a calendar with me, the calendar automatically appeared in the list of available resources for the Nextcloud account in TbSync and I could choose to sync it simply by clicking a checkbox.
Actual behavior
TbSync can no longer connect to Nextcloud at all. If a new resource becomes available in Nextcloud as described above, the process of connecting to Nextcloud and syncing the resource is much less convenient. One must go through the manual process of creating a new calendar, entering the DAV address again and entering the user name and password again (because Thunderbird has a bug and fails to save your password in the password manager even if you activate this option).
More information
It seems that TbSync was significantly more powerful and user-friendly at managing CalDAV / CardDAV resources on Nextcloud than Thunderbird's native functionality. I find it very unfortunate that TbSync no longer works without the DAV provider, which has now been discontinued.
Questions
Are there any plans to integrate TbSync more closely with Thunderbird so that it can use Thunderbird's native DAV provider API to manage Nextcloud accounts again as it did before?
If not, are there any plans to improve Thunderbird's native DAV support to be more like the excellent functionality previously provided by TbSync in the foreseeable future?
If not, are there any active forks, or will this even be technically possible, i.e. have the Thunderbird APIs perhaps been changed so that TbSync can no longer connect to Nextcloud for technical reasons?
Finally, it is of course entirely possible that I have missed something important, i.e. I am "doing it wrong". If so, I would be very thankful for any guidance.
Your environment
