Is it possible to make the AO3 source save the links that I use for searching This would be particularly useful when I want to return to the same search I was using before

That would have to be a Shosetsu feature, something like that isn't possible with the extension api. I suggest bookmarking them in your browser and copying them when you want to use them currently.
