2-3Mbit/sec doesn't sound too bad.
I mostly blame the Wii's wireless or IOS's wireless interface.
Do you have evidence of other homebrew programs that perform much better?
What filesystem are you accessing? Uploading or downloading?

I'm basing this on the simple fact that I can transfer about 15 - 20 times
faster
when ftping to my xbox which is also using wireless G. The USB harddrive is
formatted
to fat32. I don't know of any other program which are better. I'm just baffled
why
its so slow when compared and both using wireless G.

I can transfer files faster with WiiExplorer. I tried using exactly the same ftp
client using it as a SAMBA server for WiiExplorer.
The ftp client I am using is Filezilla.
So, it is quicker although less straighforward to use WiiXplorer. I am guessing
that
there must be an issue with ftpii end of the system as I have also used
Filezilla to
ftp between other devices on my network and it flies in caomparison.
Question really is, why is WiiXploere faster than ftpii ???

just a guess, but i think the reason wiixplorer transfer is faster is because
it uses
a cIOS and ehci module supporting USB2.0. FTPii is using IOS36 and USB1.1.

Thats a real drawback. Most people will transfer movies to usb harddrives, but
with
that speed it takes hours.
So its a big demand to have more speed in the time of USB 2.0 and TB harddrives.

USB 2.0 has now been supported (4.3 update) in IOS80, and will hopefully FTPii
will be updated sometime to support this. I'm not certain, but it might already
work (if you have IOS80 with the USB2 update)
