Version 1.0.8 and Android 2.3.4 here. I do have 2-step verification turned on,
but if I could enter a password into APG ("application specific") it should
verify.

I am using a Droid 2 with CyanogenMod 7.1, APG 1.0.8. I am using two-factor
auth for Google Apps, which may be the issue, but I have an application
password stored in the Android device, which allows the GMail app to work with
no need for two-factor.

I did some research on the matter, it is possible that the issue may come from
a lack of permission granted to APG, namely "requires
com.google.android.gm.permission.READ_GMAIL".

Seems this issue was resolved in 1.0.6, but comes back ...

I have the same problem. Timescape (one of the default Sony Ericsson apps) used
to have a plugin to incorporate Gmail emails into the main feed of events that
it shows. That plugin stopped working after Gmail changed the access to it's
data provider. I've read that there is no way to access the data provider
anymore but someone above me in the comments suggested adding a certain
READ_GMAIL permission. If it is that simple could we please have that fix in
the next version? (I use GB by the way on a Neo V)

I doubt that there will be a next version. We've already waited a long time

Original comment by inshame@gmail.com on 2 Jul 2012 at 8:35

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
In the forum you have patched APKs of Gmail app, you only need to remove your
current GMail app and install patched one (you need root to remove app if it's
pre-installed as system app), this is the easy way to get working

Same issue, Samsung Galaxy SIII. Seems like a bad way to fix it to patch the
Gmail app--really, this app should just get the correct permissions set.

I don't see that happening anytime soon. The project seems to have been
abandoned. Maybe someone who knows what to do can just fork it and apply
the necessary changes.
