Message shows 'SMS' as sender #674

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Just sending a message. I use FishText
2.
3.

The message is sent ok but the recipient doesn't see that it's from me. It just
shows as from 'SMS'.

That's it!

I've looked at the settings and it looks ok but this really is an issue now.
Please help!

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

What version of the product are you using? "Last" is not appropriate. Make
sure you tell at least which app you are using. On what operating system?

Please provide any additional information below.

The settings on fishtext.com have a drop-down menu option under "Send Options"
labelled "Send from". There you can choose whether to send messages using your
own number as the sender, or as "Anonymous".

Can you check what is set there? If it is set as "Anonymous" change it to your
own phone number and try sending again.

Hi,
Just checked and it's "Send From" my number.....not anonymous.

I should have said before that it was working fine through WebSMS for a long
time and in the last couple of months, it's started arriving at the other end
from "SMS". I'm sure I haven't changed any WebSMS or Fishtext settings.

When you send to the same recipient using the web interface, does the receiver
see your number or the same "SMS"?

If you get the same result from the web interface then unfortunately there's
nothing I can do for the WebSMS connector.

I have seen reports of the sending as your own number just suddenly stop
working. If that's the case then you'll need to contact fishtext themselves.
They have a support form on their main web interface, and they are quite good
at replying within 24hrs usually.

You're right.....I'm having the same problem sending a text through the
FishText site even though my setting look right. I'll get onto them and
feedback how I get on, in case others have the same problem.

FishText have confirmed that the problem is at their end. For some reason, the
network I'm sending to removes the number, making it appear anonymous. They
couldn't say when it would be fixed. Not sure I'll be able to stick with them
because it's a real pain.

Any suggestions of an alternative supplier of cheap texts?!
