It looks that translating is rather difficult for less experienced and it takes some work, so i'd like to recommend to use a translating platform. I think that Weblate would be the best since it's also open-source and optionally self-hostable. They offer free hosting of translations for the opensource project (like this), many open source projects use it. After this it would be simple for anyone to translate the project and it works with github nicely. Also you can have a translations widget on the project page, which shows percentages of translations, so it's easy to see if new strings need to be translated. There's many localization platforms, but Weblate is the only opensource platform that has that many users. Anyone that wants to translate just follows your link and can start translating or improving translations after signing in.
