I believe GPLv3 requires that the program using the library is also licensed GPLv3. I would suggest using GPLv3 with linking exception, or LGPL if you would like users of non-GPL projects to benefit.
You may be right, LGPL is Ok too.
Disclaimer: I don't want to start a license discussion war. That said i think the GPL v3 makes the usage of this hopeful project quite prohibitive. Not everyone is happy to change their project to a restrictive copyleft license because of one library.
