Finish going file free

Dropbox is being difficult on my machine, and recent experiments with streaming lead me to believe that going file free is the answer. To be clear that's:

The only files on your machine are ones you are currently working on.
Everything else is published, already public, or somewhere in the cloud.

At the moment, one of the ways that Dropbox is being difficult is that it's stuck syncing the last 95 files I have, which makes me a little worried about dropping everything. So the plan is to go a little deeper than that.

Plan

• [x] Create new user account (Keep public for public)
• [x] Get Vim, browser, and screenshots all setup.
• [x] Use it for several weeks.
• [x] Delete the old one.

Bonus plan

• [x] Get desktop tracker working as well.
• [x] Move photos over.
• [x] clear up and commit all the git files and close on old file.

Considered removing with selective sync but decided the best way was to properly bite the bullet.

Things I need to download:

• Firefox
• Jumpcut
• Spectacle
• textExpander
• my own vimrc
• Change macvim to open all .md files.

So far so good. Also had to include my own bash_profile file.

This is actually going very well. Pleased with it.

I've worked out a way of dealing with photos, that's been nice.

I suspect that the next todo is to consider wiping out the old dropbox properly. That shouldn't be too much of a problem. I think the correct action is to wipe out the dropbox. Redownload it again (pressumably going smoother) and spend a couple of hours putting files in the correct places/removing THINGs that don't need to be there.

Actually no. I'm totally used to this approach now and have written up a first blog. Next steps are:

• make sure all the git repos are sorted and wipe
• check that the existing photos are on the drive and wipe.
• Delete dropbox from that account.

Then start a new issue:

• Put all the presenation files online.
• start tidying up dropbox online: particularly the equality time documents. Consider documenting a filesystem.

So it's now a year later, and I haven't needed anything on the other account at all. Technically I have some copies of photos there, and this becomes a question of 'Where do I backup my photos?' which is an interesting one.

I've added a task about backing up photos and then I plan to errase everything and upgrade the OS
