No 12V should be needed for RTC #7

Clip leads are dangerous.

I'm assuming the 12V was used for the RTC because 5V wasn't always 5V and would have made the battery more difficult to charge. Or because Commodore being cheap, didn't want a Lithium rechargeable cell and opted for Nickel Cadmium time-bombs.

It would be a big improvement to simply use 5V and a lithium rechargeable coin cell battery as-per the datasheet. These are much more common nowadays and removes the need to pull 12V from anywhere as well as the potentially explosive NiCd.

Was this not updated to support coin cell batteries? Is it attempting to charge them if you install one?

Sorry for the late reply... I wasn't getting notifications of opened issues.

I agree completely with your observations. This first iteration was meant to exactly copy the original design before any upgrades were made. A new board is in design that will improve the RTC circuit, including battery type. Alternative Agnus support will also be included, as well as more available surface mount RAM options. We just wanted to make sure everything worked as expected before any changes.
