Cheap PCBA Castellated EPD Driver Module #62

Hello, I've come across this project, and decided to try my hand at it. My plan is to build the reboot version, and this requires the Castellated EPD Driver Module to be assembled with PCBA. Here's my issue: this is really expensive. Even after applying coupons, the board is around 35-40$ at JLCPCB. The main problem is that JLCPCB charges a bit for the PCBA setup fee (9 bucks) and then around 1 euro per solder joint that needs to be done by hand (which, for some reason, is a lot of them). Does anybody have any tips on getting the price down, and if not, how difficult is this to hand-solder? I've got a bit of experience with soldering SMDs, but I'm nowhere near an expert.
