Amazon Echo Plus (2nd Generation) not supported? Error getting media player information. Reason: Unknown Device or Serial number

Describe Your Problem:

Received "Error getting media player information. Reason: Unknown Device or Serial number" after adding the Alexa speaker into Homekit.

Expected behavior:

Was expecting it to be able to use the feature for Echo devices listed on README.md. Unfortunately I don't have other Alexa Echo devices to test whether it works on the other more common types (eg. Echo Dot or normal Echo).
