It would great to have people submit photos from their different locations and include the photos on the map :)

Are you looking for mobile apps that allow for submission of annotated/georeferenced photos? I've been using EpiCollect+ Beta (free and open source) with HS students. Here are some of the maps they made with CartoDB, but data & photos collected EpiCollect +Beta http://plus.epicollect.net/

Link to EpiCollect+ repo https://github.com/ImperialCollegeLondon/EpiCollectplus (but I just use the web-based form builder to create data collection forms) There's also iNaturalist that could be another option https://github.com/inaturalist/inaturalist but I've stayed away from it for my students' projects b/c it's only for documenting presence and not absence of particular species
