Currently the backlight is only activated via Keys or Sticks, can we add the 
ability to include switches to activate the backlight?

That may work but it doesn't make for a very polished product.   The main menu 
currently allows you to select "keys", "Sticks" or "Both".

Should change to "Keys", "Sticks", "Switches" or "All".

With the custom function method you have to add it to all models manually.
