Why does the elephant want to go from a to b?

Elephant tries to reach top of skyscrapper to grab a glas of water because a random guy asked him. Elevator breaks down when elephant enters, thus he just goes up 1 level each time. Elephant in the room -> elephant is actually in rooms this way because he goes through office/etc. rooms.
