Hello Greg,
thanks a lot for posting here and sorry for my lack of answers, I have been pretty busy the last months.
I didn't update www.fidget-spinners.net
for a long time but I would love adding your content!
Please feel free to send it here (you can attach files when writing comments) or by using the service of your choice (wetransfer, mega, etc)
And I will try to add it to the website in the next days.
Have a nice day, Johan
Before I give you the updates, there are two things I would like your thoughts about. First, would you be willing to update the site once every month or two, if I provide the new material? Second, would it make sense for my e-mail to be listed at the bottom of the page for update suggestions?
Here are some of the updates that I have made:
Added hundreds of new spinners that have been released since 2017.
Removed photos of spinners that are identical except for material type (e.g. brass versus stainless steel). In recent years, many vendors have released their spinners in multiple metals, making it very difficult to be “complete” about showing all metal options.
Removed the costs of the spinners. Prices have fluctuated a lot over the years, and the original prices are pretty much irrelevant since most of the spinners are no longer available from the original vendors.
Added spinner types (bar, tri, quad, cog, ring), and allow sorting based on these types.
Changed the links at the bottom of the page to resources that are more current (e.g. more recent YouTube reviews).
Best, Greg
Here is a Dropbox link with the updated content for the fidget spinner web site (184 MB):
https://www.dropbox.com/s/znxxcuky9e3rrfv/spinners.net.zip?dl=0
I remember one other change that I made. The date for a given spinner now represents when the spinner first came to market, when I can determine this. For instance, you can see that the torqbar is now the earliest spinner listed.
Best, Greg
Hi,
this is a huge update! Thank you so much for the effort you put in this project 👍
I have pushed this awesome work online, you can already have a look: https://www.fidget-spinners.net/
First, would you be willing to update the site once every month or two, if I provide the new material?
Sure thing! Once I get the updated files, it's pretty easy to push them live, as you can see.
If you are willing to learn how Git/GitHub works, I could also add you as a contributor at some point, so you would be free to update the website as you like.
Second, would it make sense for my e-mail to be listed at the bottom of the page for update suggestions?
It would definitely make sense. Note, I'm regularly spammed by Chinese manufacturers who want me to buy batches of low-quality plastic spinners 😃 you may not want to expose your personal email to this content. If you are interested, I could create a specific address for your usage, something like greg@fidget-spinners.net
?
Thanks again for your interest! I kind of abandonned the fidgets world for the last few months, and browsing all this new content tonight was very refreshing!
Hi Johan,
Thank you so much! This is excellent. Your web page is really a marvelous resource for the fidget spinner community. The fad has died down, but there are still a bunch of people interested in nice spinners, both makers and collectors.
I am really glad that you are okay with making occasional updates. I will try not to bother you too often about this.
I agree that it would make sense for me to have a separate e-mail address for people who want to contact me about the site. If you made an account such as greg@fidget-spinners.net, how would I check for messages? (By the way, my preference for such a name would be gturk1.)
Best, Greg
You should have received an email with the credentials for a new gturk1@fidget-spinners.net
email address, that you can use as you like.
You can connect to it with Gandi's webmail (my domain provider): https://webmail.gandi.net/roundcube
Please let me know if that works for you! If so, we could add that address somewhere on the website.
I haven't seen any e-mail regarding this yet. What address should this have gone to?
Hi Johan,
I am the person who contacted you on instagram about fidget-spinners.net. I know almost nothing about github, so I don't even know if opening an issue is the proper way to contact you on github. I much prefer using e-mail, and my address is: gturk1@hotmail.com
I have downloaded your github code, and I have been adding images of new fidget spinners and updating the main json file. Would you be interested in using this updated information for your fidget spinner site?
Regards, Greg Turk
