=== What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Translate "How are you doing?" in french
2. You get a wrong french translation: "comment fais-tu?"
3. Translate "how are you doing?" in french
4. You get a correct translation ""comment vas-tu?"

Done using google translate (with the API or directly)

=== What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Current Google Tranlsate API March 3, 2009

=== Please provide any additional information below.

In fact, this happens with a lot of simple sentences (try "This cat is
nice" vs "this cat is nice") and seems to be the case in spanish too
(with "How are you doing?")!

Yes i had the same issue with spanish. I'm using firefox 3.1, on windows vista.
I
entered the following phrases
1. "tiene un amor platónico en colombia" --> google translation: Platonic love
is a
talent
2. "Tiene un amor platónico en colombia" --> "It has a platonic love in india"
3. "Tiene un amor platónico en Colombia" --> "It has a platonic love in
Colombia"

this happens with single words, too, which is ridiculous. Upper-case words often
don't get translated at all, where lower-case words translate just fine. Also it
seems it depends on the result language. Using German as result language often
yields
this problem while other languages don't. Examples:
Reloj (Spanish to German) yields "Clock", which is the English translation,
should be
"Uhr", reloj works fine.
Scale (English to German) yields "Scale", "scale" works fine
