foliate had optional spellchecking support (for user notes) until version 3 when the app was ported to GTK4.
There is a new spellchecking library for GTK4 named libspelling and it has GObject Introspection support.
Additional context libspelling is maintained by the GNOME Text Editor developer. GNOME Text Editor does not yet use it but gtranslator does.
