[Feature Request] optional support for tabs #181

Open hp600 opened 4 years ago

I think having the option to keep multiple books open using tabs instead of windows will be great! Also, thanks for writing such a wonderful ebook reader!

I second this. For me the use case would be to be able to compare different editions of the same author (or a different publisher), and to read original and translated versions in parallel. This would work well with tabs, I believe, but requires an additional click or key combination to change between tabs. In any case, I think this is an important feature to be implemented to be able to open multiple ebooks within one Foliate instance.

You can already open multiple windows. You can also open the same file in different windows. So tabs are currently pretty low on the todo list (if it's on it at all).

You can also open the same file in different windows.

I personally find having multiple instances or "nested windows" to be a bit too distracting prefer a tabbed interface for reading.

Hello, should it still be possible to open multiple windows with foliate? I am running version 3.1.1 on Archlinux, and I can only have one instance open... Thanks!

Yes you can have multiple windows.

But currently you can't open multiple library views or catalogs windows directly.

Thanks for the quick reply! Ctrl-N is just what I needed! I had searched for it, but for some reason never got to the book menu...

  • When a book is opened, open a copy of the book ("Open a Copy" in the
book menu [on the sidebar], or
    CtrlN).
  • From the same book menu, choose "Open New Window", which will open a
new window showing the library view.
  • From the file manager, open multiple books, and they will be opened
    in different windows.
  • From the library view, open a book in new window from the "three
dots" menu below/beside the book cover.

But currently you can't open multiple library views or catalogs windows
directly.
