Legion Pro 7 16IRX8H - ALC287 & NVIDIA HDA PRO 9 detected (EDIT) But does not stay activated, requires restart to fix. #174

Problem Description

I have no internal sound from my Nvidia HDA/ALC287 sound card setup. I cannot get the audiojack to work either it seems. Bluetooth and HDMI output are my only workable solutions right now. I assume since the HDMI is working it's not the HDA that's the issue but the ALC287 realtek card.

I found no information in the readme to address this issue but I notice others have had the problem. I have run some diagnostics and found that the devices are detected but not communicating properly with pulse. Bellow is some info and some commands I entered in the hopes of providing more insight.

I have had this problem since I first got the machine. This is a big problem for presenting videos to students in one on one VFX tutoring.

As Nobara is Fedora based I had to use different commands:

sudo dnf install fwts
mkdir fwts_re
cd fwts_re
sudo fwts wmi - > fwts_wmi.log

Which went here: /home/username/fwts_re/fwts_re/fwts_re/fwts_wmi.log

An again, fedora so:

# Install requiered tools
sudo dnf install acpica-tools

This worked for me, but the following command failed:

# List ACPI tables and copy them
ls /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/
sudo cp --no-preserve=mode /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/*SDT* .

# Disassemble tables to output DSDT.dsl
iasl -e SSDT* -d DSDT

This resulted in a writing error:

I have the Legion Pro 7 16IRX8H (7i with the i9 and 4090) running debian. I can see the audio moving in the audio setting section but can't hear anything. help :(

Update, with Nobara 40, my ALC287 is working and sounds great... on boot... if I had it previously selected before. Sometimes when I don't use the sound and go to play something, I hear no sound, which tells me it's not longer connected somehow. Then if restart, it's back again. Another surefire way to disable the ALC287 is to put the computer to sleep or into hibernation, particularly if there is another sound device like a monitor plugged in.

So I guess the nature of the issue has changed for me; it works but only temporarily and I have to restart to get it back.
