I noticed this in Audio Midi Setup today as well. I then updated to 0.5c and Midi settings are staying where I set them. I set it while Audirvana was off of course, to 24 bit. Now I am playing a 24/96 file. Still set. Now I will play an 88.2/24 file and check Midi prefs... still staying set at 96 and 24.
One other thing, I have changed the setting in Audirvana to "Force Over/Up Sampling" -- I don't know if this is what has made the difference or the upgrade.
Currently, I am trying to find out why I have zero audio output with any of my other audio apps - iTunes, SoundStudio, Plex. Could this be related to Audirvana?

What is the DAC/soundcard you are using ?
Is it the built-in output of the Mac Mini ?
It does not handle 88.2kHz (as you can notice in the Audio System pane of the
user prefs, or in the Audio Midi Setup app). Thus Audirvana needs convert the
sample rate to one that is handled and the max avail one is 96kHz.
You don't have audio output on other apps, because "exclusive audio access" is
selected in Audirvana to increase sound quality.
For the bit depth, Audirvana does not currently handles the change of the
physical bitrate to 24bit if it has been selected otherwise. It affects only
the built-in output AFAIK. Other DACS provide only 24bit.
So for now, you can simply set the built-in output to 24bit in Audio Midi Setup.

0.6.1 makes sure highest bitdepth is used when playing.
