It works fine on my computer, gedit 3.2.0 with ubuntu 11.10.

Download v3.2.0 and try it again.
v3.1.1 can't work on gedit v3.1.5 or later.

What version do you install?
Only advanced_find-3.2.0 can work on gedit3.2.0.

Remove the old plugin installation completely; re-install advanced_find-3.2.0
and try again.

I am having the same issue as described above.
System: Ubuntu 11.10 (unity shell)
        Gedit 3.2.3
        advanced_find-3.3.2
Effects:
After downloading and extracting the code and then running sudo sh install.sh,
when I select Advanced Find/Replace, I get a red "no entry road sign" :) .
Solving attempts:
Removed the files and reinstalled -> didn't work
        Tried installing v.2.2.4 -> didn't work

You should not run install.sh as root.
Just "sh install.sh".

Remove the files and follow the steps here:
http://code.google.com/p/advanced-find/wiki/Installation

v2.2.4 is for gedit 2.x only.

Thanks! My .local/share/gedit folder was owned by root so I had to change
its ownership in order not to use sudo. It now works.
