I used Banshee just before switching to Rhythmbox, musictracker worked fined as
well with Banshee.

have you tried configuring your rhythmbox plugin?
rhythmbox>Edit>plugins>IM status

I use the rhythmbox plugin, which is a work around, not a fix for
pidgin-musictracker. The rhythmbox plugin is not as useful, as it does not
remove the IM status once a track stops playing, thus leaving the user to
manually delete it. Also it is kind of nice to customize one's status using
variables in pidgin-musictracker.

Not only does the Rhythmbox plugin not work as well for setting the status, but
it doesn't work as well overall. pidgin-musictracker is capable of setting the
“Now Listening” field for MSN/WLM; Rhythmbox blindly sets the status and
completely ignores the field specifically intended for the information.

The same problem here. I'm using musictracker 0.4.22 with pidgin 2.10.5 on
fedora 17. The plugin does not update my status when I use Rhythmbox.
