I propose changing the style to this and dropping the brackets.

The count is rarely of interest. YMMV.

Consider:

revealing the number only when the user points at the name
posititioning the number to the left of, and adjacent to, the :heavy_plus_sign: plus icon (adding will add 1 to the number); not adjacent to the name.
