The selection dialogue window thing (no idea what to call it) Should be changed from the old XP-style one http://i.imgur.com/P5E3rvC.png to a modern http://i.imgur.com/N1hVrId.png one where one can use the address bar to copy-paste locations and which is generally better and more flexible. Sorry for the vague terminology, I have no idea what the UI elements in question are called, I hope the pictures convey my ideas better.

Good idea. I'll try to integrate it for the next release.

Unfortunately, I've not found any good alternative to the Java file chooser. A project like http://commons-vfs-ui.sourceforge.net/ exists, but I think it is a bit too complex for common users.
