The FJ is a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser with a 4.0 liter V6 (24 valve) engine, the 2 wheel drive (2WD) version.

Supplies Needed

  1. 5.5 Quarts of FULL Synthetic 5W-30 weight Oil. (From Miller's Auto / CarQuest)
  2. Fram Oil filter.
  3. 14mm socket.

Steps

  1. Warm the engine up to operating temperature, then let the exhaust system cool for 15-20 minutes (so that the exhaust parts are too hot to work around, but the oil is still warm and has time to drain back into the oil pan).
  2. Position the oil receptacle under the oil pan and remove the drain plug. Inspect the oil as it first drains for discoloration or metal shavings. This takes 10-20 minutes to drain completely when warm, so move on to other steps.
  3. After oil is drained, replace oil pan plug. Torque to ___ ft. lbs.
  4. Remove oil filter and clean the engine around where it was with a paper towel.
  5. Rub some clean oil around the rubber seal of the new oil filter.
  6. Install the new oil filter, hand tight.
  7. Remove the oil cap and add new oil, using the funnel.
  8. Replace the oil cap.
  9. Reset the "Maintenance Required" oil change indicator (see below).
