Tools

Inspect Tool The Inspect tool is a useful tool for web developers. Work efficiency will be considerably improved by mastering it, making it an indispensable tool for web developers. Right-click on any webpage, click Inspect, and you'll see the innards of that site: its source code, the images and CSS that form its design, the fonts and icons it uses, the Javascript code that powers animations, and more.

Description

I got am email inviting me to check out a website by the name of 'blinklab architecture'. I obliged and went to the link: http://www.blink-lab.com. I clicked on one of the images to inspect it and I noticed that it did not have an alt text (An alt provides a brief description of an image displayed on a webpage for those individuals that may be visually impaired. For an example please refer to the first screenshot in the section below, labeled 'Screenshots'. IF you look to the right of the screenshot, in the blue highlighted area, where you see "alt-" it reads as follows; "A visual description of Oakland" ). I checked the rest of the images and I discovered that most of the images have no alt text. This is a direct violation of ADA (Americans Disabilities Act) compliance laws, where it states, 'Web content should be accessible to blind users and those who must navigate by voice, screen readers or other assistive technologies'. This is also an I enhancement issue, because this website does not properly cater to the visually impaired part of the population. That is a whole demographic of people that this company is missing out on, which can inhibit potential revenue gain.

Expected Behavior

I expect that, because the images have a direct correlation with the content of the text, there would be an alt text describing these images for individuals who may be visually impaired and, or using any assistance technology to navigate the page. If I were a visually impaired person I would expect there to be an alt text associated with all of the text so that I could have the best experience possible when visiting this website.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Log on to the link http://www.blink-lab.com.
  2. Scroll down to the image of the art gallery
  3. right click on the image and click inspect at the bottom of the tab.
  4. To the right of the screen, in the highlighted area, you can see that there is no alt: text to describe the text (Please refer to the first screenshot).
  5. To check another image on another part of the website, hover over the word 'news' on the header.
  6. scroll down to about on the draw down tab.
  7. Right click on the image of the Design Principal, June A. Grant. and click inspect at the bottom o f the tab.
  8. on the right side of the screen, in the highlighted area, there is no alt: text describing who this person is (please refer to the second image).
